Earth, Wind & Fire (EWF) had a rather peculiar career before they got their break-through. All things coming from founder Maurice White, they were rather un-spectacular in the early 70’s - playing faded funk-rock, like many bands did then. As chance would have it, though, they got paired up with the musician/producer Charles Stepney, who guided them into the direction that was better for all. They now used Funk as their musical basis, although with a lot of juicy jazz harmonics involved, and most important; used BIG Orchestras!! Full Blow! No savings involved! In the late 70’s the massive breakthrough came, and in the 80’s EWF was one of the worlds most famous bands. The best songs do absolutely write music-history; Good composed songs, nevertheless - always in a smart “sellable” package…. And mostly including a very positive and uplifting message. Simply amazing.
Here you can find my attempts to transcribe the biggest of the famous hits for full Coverband. Including strings & Horns, of course! - at a later time I did some BigBand arrangements of these transcriptions….
