The evolution of social software has set the stage for web users to become publishers on a large scale. The information one-way street on the web of the 1990s has turned into an information highway where traffic can flow freely into both directions.
Despite the mass of user contributions, few empirical findings concerning functions and quality of contributions in the context of information management and information retrieval are available.
Initially, the main contribution forms of the social web are introduced and discussed. This is followed by empirical studies of social tagging, blog posting, commenting as well as relevance assessments of digital resources within social information systems. The final conceptual part builds on the empirical results and combines the contribution forms commenting and tagging in a concept and implementation of a social information architecture for an emerging online help system.
Die Entstehung von Social Software ermöglicht es Nutzern, in großem Umfang im Netz zu publizieren. Die Informationseinbahnstraße des WWW der 90er Jahre ist zur Informationsautobahn geworden, die einen frei fließenden Verkehr in beide Richtungen ermöglicht.
Trotz der Masse von Nutzerbeiträgen liegen bisher nur wenige empirische Befunde zu funktionalen Eigenschaften sowie Qualitätsaspekten von Nutzerbeiträgen im Kontext von Informationsmanagement und Information Retrieval vor.
Zunächst werden grundlegende Partizipationsformen vorgestellt und diskutiert. Anschließend werden empirische Studien über Social Tagging, Blogbeiträge sowie Relevanzbeurteilungen digitaler Ressourcen innerhalb sozialer Informationssysteme präsentiert. Der abschließende konzeptuelle Teil baut auf den gewonnene Erkenntnissen auf und präsentiert Design und Implementierung einer „sozialen“ Informationsarchitektur für ein partizipatives Onlinehilfesystem.
