Frank Sardo Avianca (16. September 1936 - 26. Februar, 2014), der als Frankie Sardo auftrat , war ein amerikanischer Rock and Roll Sänger, Schauspieler und Filmproduzent. Er war Mitglied der unglückseligen Winter - Dance – Party Tournee im Jahr 1959 , während der Buddy Holly , Ritchie Valens und JP "The Big Bopper" Richardson ihr Leben nach einem Flugzeugabsturz in Clear Lake, Iowa verloren .
Im Alter von 5, hatte Frankie Sardo sein erstes musikalisches Debüt auf der Bühne des Theaters von Little Italy, in der Bronx, New York. Nach seiner Rückkehr aus Korea in die Vereinigten Staaten, trat Frankie eine Comedy - Gruppe, bevor er seine ersten Aufnahmen als Sänger für MGM Records im Jahr 1958 machte.
Seine zweite Platte war "Fake Out", geschrieben von seinem Bruder Johnny Sardo, der selbst einige hervorragende Rock & Roll Platten aufnahm (geb. 1941) wurde von ABC-Paramount veröffentlicht und schaffte es zu einem regionalen Hit. Er wurde eingeladen , die Winter Dance Party - Tour mit Holly, Valens, Richardson, und Dion und die Belmonts , als Vorgruppe ( die meisten der Tour Plakate nennen fälschlicherweise sein Lied „Fake Out“ als „Take Out“). Nach dem Konzert in Clear Lake, Iowa am 2. Februar 1959 reiste Sardo zum nächsten Ort mit dem Bus mit Dion und den Belmonts und Begleitband von Holly, während Holly, Valens und Richardson ein Flugzeug nahmen welches kurz nach dem Start abstürzte. Sardo machte bis 1962 Singles auf verschiedene Plattenlabels; auf einigen, sang er mit seinem Bruder als Duo, Frankie und Johnny. Am 7. September 1960 trat Frankie Sardo in der American Bandstand TV Show auf. Unter dem Namen Frank Avianca, arbeitete er als Schauspieler und Produzent. Er lebte an vielen Orten einschließlich England, Kanada und Kalifornien. Frankie Sardo starb an Krebs in Somers, New York am 26. Februar 2014 im Alter von 77.

Frank Sardo Avianca (September 16, 1936 – February 26, 2014), who performed as Frankie Sardo, was an American rock and roll singer, actor and film producer. He was a member of the ill-fated Winter Dance Party in 1959 after which Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson lost their lives in a plane crash the morning after a show in Clear Lake, Iowa.
He was born Frank Marco Sardo on September 16, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, into an Italian-American family. By age 5, Frankie Sardo had his first musical debut on stage of the theatre of Little Italy, in the Bronx. He continued to perform in these theatres, which catered to Italian immigrants, along with his parents, He served in the military in Korea. On his return to the United States, Frankie joined a comedy group, before making his first recordings as a singer for MGM Records in 1958.
His second record, "Fake Out", written by his brother Johnny Sardo (born 1941), who recorded some mighty fine Rock & Roll Records himself, and released by ABC-Paramount, became a regional hit, and he was invited to join the 1959 Winter Dance Party tour starring Holly, Valens, Richardson, and Dion and the Belmonts, as the opening act (Most of the tour's posters mistitled his song "Fake Out" as "Take Out"). After the tour concert at Clear Lake, Iowa on February 2, 1959, Sardo traveled to the next venue by bus with Dion and the Belmonts and Holly's backing group, while Holly, Valens, and Richardson took a plane. The plane crashed in the early hours of February 3, killing the three stars and pilot Roger Peterson. Sardo continued to release singles on several different record labels until 1962; on some, he performed with his brother as a duo, Frankie and Johnny. On September 7, 1960, Frankie Sardo appeared on American Bandstand where he performed his single "When The Bells Stop Ringing".
Using the name Frank Avianca, he worked as a film actor and producer. His film credits included co-writing the lyrics of several songs for the 1969 movie Hell's Angels '69 (1969). He produced Clay Pigeon (1971), co-produced The 14, also known as Existence (1973); produced and acted in The 'Human' Factor (1975); and appeared in Matilda (1978). He then co-wrote and co-produced the horror film Blood Song in 1982, and also co-wrote and co-produced the feature-length animated film Ferretina - The Promise.
He lived in many places including England, Canada and California. Frankie Sardo died of cancer in Somers, New York on February 26, 2014, aged 77.
The two Sardo brothers recorded some mighty fine Rock & Roll songs, which are collected for the first time on this CD. I Wanna Rock!
