Third Man an Nonesuch Records released the new album from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson. The Party Ain’t Over, produced by her friend Jack White (The White Stripes), last year.
With a remarkable career that began in 1954, Jackson, credited with being the first woman to ever record a rock and roll song—“Let’s Have a Party” in 1958—was convinced by her friend Elvis Presley to cross over from country to rock and rockabilly music. Now known around the globe as “The Queen Of Rock” and “The First Lady of Rockabilly,” Jackson was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2010 Americana Music Awards in.
That these two musical luminaries would find one another is hardly surprising. Jackson is an icon to everyone who knows and loves the roots of rock and roll. White, some 30+ years her junior, is one of music’s most enigmatic visionaries. The two teamed up last year to record a 45rpm single for White’s Third Man Records. The vinyl and iTunes release, a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “You Know I’m No Good” b/w “Shakin All Over” was a big success and the pair hatched a plan to record a full-length album.
The Party Ain’t Over was recorded in Nashville at White’s studio, who hand picked the songs—11 tracks dating in origin from the early 1900s to 2007. The result: a retro modern collection of music that showcases Wanda, now in her seventh decade and sounding as wickedly charismatic as ever. Their work was honoured by the music buying public and the CD went into the US Top 10 charts. Since then, a packed tour schedule still shows the interest in Wanda Jackson and even hit recording artists like Adele and Imelda May are eager to perform together with her.
A documentary movie about her called “The Sweet Lady With The Nasty Voice” shows Bruce Springsteen and others as her proud fans.
are great singers and there are great entertainers: WANDA is both and her shows
are energy packed. On one tour in France
she was billed as "HURRICANE WANDA" and she did not disappoint them.
The JAPANESE PEOPLE took a super liking in 1959 to one of WANDA'S Rockin’
songs, "FUJIYAMA MAMA" and made it their #1 song for six months.
WANDA toured Japan that year
for seven weeks.
WANDA tours Europe and Scandinavia several times each year Headlining big ROCK & ROLL Festivals. One year in BUDAPEST, HUNGARY for their freedom celebration, WANDA sang to over 70,000 fans. WANDA has recorded with other singers in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Germany. She has recorded in the German, Dutch, and Japanese languages. Her German recording of "SANTO DOMINGO" became a #1 song in three different German speaking countries, and is still played on the radio today.
WANDA recorded for Decca Records for two years (1954&'55), and for Capitol Records 18 years,(1956-1973) such hits as: Let´s Have A Party, Mean Mean Man, Right Or Wrong, Rockabilly Fever, Silver Threads & Golden Needles, Rock Your Baby, Stupid Cupid, Riot In cell Block 9,….. . She now records for legendary bluegrass label CMH Records. WANDA has recorded somewhere between 50 to 60 Albums, 8 Tracks, Cassettes, and CD's around the world. She started out touring with Hank Thompson and Elvis Presley.
Now she´s back on the road with her brand new album “Unfinished Business”
