The dried, ripe fruit: oval or egg-shaped, with three indistinct formed on the longitudinal ribs. 1.5-2cm long and 1-1,5 cm in diameter. Brown or dark brown, densely covered with spiny protrusions and the front surface, at the top are the remains of the perianths, at the base often with a pedicel visible. Thin, soft pericarp. The seeds are agglutinated to a lump with three obtuse longitudinal ribs, in-between white septa are recognizable, the lumps of the Seeds in three columns, each of these columns contains between 5 and 26 seeds. The seeds represent irregularly shaped polyhedra with diameters of 2-3mm. The surface is brown-red or dark-colored, brown and with fine wrinkles plated, the outside of the seeds are brown with a pale, membrane-like aril covered; hard consistency, grey-and-white endosperm.
Aromatic, intense, sharp smell, sharp cooling, slightly bitter taste.
