The dried roots of Adenophora tetraphylla or Adenophora stricta from the Campanulaceae family.
Round-tapered or round-cylindrical, slightly curved 7-27 cm long and 0.8-3 cm in diameter. Yellowish white or pale brownish-yellow surface; the remnants of the outer cortex can be seen in the indentations of the surface; the upper part appears as a sequence of annular beads, the lower part having longitudinal lines and longitudinal streams. At the upper end are 1 or 2 rhizomes.
Lightweight specific weight, spongy consistency, easily breakable with uneven, yellowish white, cracked fracture.
Odorless, sweetish taste.
