MARX, Hans-Joachim

Hans-Joachim Marx: was born in Anklam / Pomerania in 1923 and died on the 27th of August 2010 in Flensburg The ancestors on his fahter's side were almost all organists and cantors. Marx grew up with domestic chamber music. From 1930 he lived in Stralsund where he grew up with a lot of musical influences from that time. After graduating from high school he began to study music in Berlin, but this was interrupted from the second world war and after the war he was prisoner of war  in Moscow, Russia. In 1948 he started studying again at the Rostock University of Music. 1952 he made examination for conductor, his main subject teachers were Prof. Rudolf Wagner-Regeny for compsosition, Genral Music Director Prof. Dr. Heinz Röttger for conducting and Prof. C.A. Marthiesen for piano.

Two years before his examination in 1950 he allready was conductor at the Rostock theatre as an opera and concert conductor. Music Director Hans-Joachim Marx was musical director at various theaters in East and West Germany for many years. After reunification from Germany, he was appointed chief conductor of the symphony orchestra in his hometown Stralsund. He was also a long-time employee of various radio companies and guest conductor of well-known orchestras.
