We supply all gear, accessories and spare parts PRM - NEWAGE
We replace the old gear PRM - Newage with New PRM gear !!!
Modern boats, not just fishing craft and workboats but also pleasure craft, increasingly demand auxiliary power for driving on-board machinery such as winches, pumps or compressors. The traditional method of meeting these requirements has been to take an auxiliary drive from the front of the main propulsion engine, which involves expensive and space consuming vee-belt installations.
PRM500, PRM750 and PRM1000 marine transmissions now offer you compact, low cost and efficient alternatives: a choice of clutched or direct drive power take-off units which bolt directly to the rear face of the gearbox, either as factory fitted options or as assemblies for retro-fitting to existing gearbox installations. Both versions are specifically designed to drive hydraulic pumps, whether of the gear, vane or piston type; they are not intended to be adapted for driving an outrigger pulley since the mounting
Direct Drive Power Take-Off
Available on the PRM500 and PRM 750 the direct drive power take-off is driven directly from the gearbox input shaft; consequently it will operate at all times when the engine is running, and since there is no clutch for disengagement of the hydraulic pump, provision must be made in the auxiliary hydraulics circuits for pressure by-pass to the reservoir when power to the pump is not required. A pair of 1:1 ratio gears, providing sufficient offset between the gearbox output shaft and the centreline of the power take-off to ensure there is sufficient clearance between the hydraulic pump and propeller shaft coupling.
Capacity
All power take-offs are specifically designed for driving hydraulic pumps to SAE J744C series 'B' specification with splined input shaft and either two-bolt or four-bolt fixing. The maximum power which can be transmitted is 22 KW (29.5 bhp) per 1000 rev/min engine speed; this equates to a torque of 209 Nm (155 Ibf.ft. - 21.33 kgm.).For PRM1000 the clutched power take-off gives pump rotation the same as the engine, where as the direct drive power take-off for the PRM500 and PRM750 will give opposite rotation. Power to the pump is not affected by the normal use of the gearbox for propulsion duties. All ancillary power circuits driven by PRM power take-offs should be designed in accordance with the recommendations of the hydraulic equipment manufacturer, and should be properly safeguarded against overloading.
PRM power take-off units fit on the rear face of the main gearcase and are driven by the input shaft; consequently they can be operated at all times whilst the engine is running, The power take-off replaces the end cover which is normally fitted and performs the functions of the end cover by sealing the gearbox against loss of oil and correctly positions the input shaft rear bearing. Power take-off units also provide the link between the gearbox and the hydraulic pump.
All our hydraulically operated gearboxes feature a twin countershaft design which enables full rated power to be transmitted in ahead or astern with either left or right handed propellers.
Hydraulically operated adjustment free multi disc clutches ensure rapid response to operation of the control lever for good boat handling and manoeuvrability. All models are designed for use with proprietory single lever remote control operating systems.
Gear ratios and performance for all models are identical in either direction making PRM units the ideal choice for twin engine applications. Propellers can be trailed indefinitely when sailing, under low or in multi engine applications when one engine is shut down.
Built for reliability and durability all PRM hydraulic gearboxes feature a manual 'get you home' mechanical lock. This feature allows you to maintain the clutch in the engaged position so that the vessel can be bought safely home in the unlikely event of hydraulic failure.
A safety start switch is available on all hydraulic gearboxes which does not allow engine start up whilst drive is engaged.

With a precision engineering pedigree, PRM Newage Ltd has established an enviable reputation as a specialist in the design and manufacture of high efficiency mechanical driveline equipment.
From its roots at the birth of the UK automotive industry, the company has evolved a product range that encompasses a wide variety of driveline solutions, such as the NEWAGE brand of Off-Highway and Ground Support axles, as well as the world renowned PRM gearbox range for Marine applications.
In addition, PRM Newage supplies finished products for new generation, special purpose vehicles, and provides sub-contract services for leading manufacturing organisations.
Full hydraulic operation: in-line, offest or down angle output shaft
The PRM750 marine gearbox is purpose built for use in both pleasure craft and commercial boats; its twin countershaft design provides separate oil-operated multi-disc clutches (which need no adjustment) for ahead and astern drive allowing full rated power to be transmitted continuously in either direction.
To cater for the widest possible variety of boats the PRM750 is offered in three different configurations : in-line, with offset output shaft and 8° down angle output shaft. Reduction ratios available are 1.09:1, 1.459:1, 1.935:1, 2.565:1, 2.904:1 and 3.952:1 (3.952:1 reduction is not available on in line or down-angle gearboxes) all of which can provide either left-hand or right-hand propeller rotation in "ahead", making the gearbox particularly well suited to twin engine installations.
A special feature of the PRM750 is the direct drive power take-off which is available as an optional extra; this will power a hydraulic pump to SAE J744C type 'B' specification, thus providing an economical and space efficient means of driving on-board machinery.
A Trolling Valve is also offered as an optional extra. This is electronically operated which allows variable speed of the propeller to zero whilst allowing a maximum engine speed of up to 1200 rpm.
The robust and reliable hydraulic system uses lubricating oil of the same viscosity as that used in the engine, and helps ensure good boat handling by its rapid response to movements of the operating lever.
The operating lever has a positive neutral detent which assists the setting-up of the remote control operating unit whilst for added security, to guard against the unlikely event of hydraulic failure all gearboxes incorporate a mechanical lock-up device so the boat can be brought safely back to port.
The gearcase is constructed of high grade cast iron, internally ribbed for rigidity and strength, and consists of two separate halves to facilitate servicing, the oil pump and hydraulic control valves being externally mounted for easy accessibility.

Note: These powers have been measured at the engine flywheel. Ratings have been established to ensure the long trouble free life of the gearbox which should not, therefore be used at powers in excess of those shown.
Limited to planing hull pleasure craft; operation at full engine throttle should not exceed 5% of total time, with balance usage at 90% of full throttle engine speed, or less. Maximum operation 500 hours per year. The selection of PRM marine transmissions according to this classification for any commercial boat, or in sport-fishing charter boats or in long range pleasure cruisers, is not approved.
Planing or semi-displacement craft used in pleasure or commercial applications may qualify for light commercial rating if annual usage is less than 1500 hours and full throttle operation is limited, with most operating time at partial throttle.
PRM Newage Limited recommends that all displacement and semi-displacement craft used for commercial applications should be classed as heavy commercial duty. In vessels of this type (including trawlers, purse seiners, lobster and crab boats, tugs, ferries, offshore supply boats etc.) the marine gearbox is expected to work at full governed engine speed. The power setting of the engine must be known and must be within the gearbox's permissible heavy commercial rating.
Important Note
PRM Newage Ltd will provide all possible information and assistance to help find solutions to potential torsional problems, but it is the ultimate responsibility of the person assembling the drive and driven equipment to ensure that they are torsionally compatible.
Minimum - 3000 kPa (440 lb./in²), Maximum - 3300 kPa (485 lb./in²). Two tapped holes 1/8" BSP on the top, and M18 on the side of the valve block are provided so that the pressure gauge can be fitted if required.
The normal operating temperature of the oil should be in the 50°C - 80°C range and should not be permitted to exceed 90°C. An oil cooler is necessary to ensure that correct operating temperatures are maintained, and two 3/8" BSP connections are provided on the valve block to allow it to be fitted. The size of the cooler required depends on a number of factors including the transmitted horsepower, operating speed, duty cycle, inlet water temperature and ambient temperature.
Both ahead and astern thrust is carried by the output shaft bearings which are of adequate capacity for all factory approved ratings.
